Rock physics diagnostic of Eocene Sokor-1 reservoir in Termit subbasin, Niger

چکیده

Abstract Eocene Sokor-1 reservoir is intrinsically heterogeneous and characterized by low-contrast low-resistivity log responses in parts of the Termit subbasin. Discriminating lithology fluid properties using petrophysics alone complicated undermines characterization. Petrophysics rock physics were integrated through diagnostics (RPDs) modeling for detailed description microstructure quality Petrophysical evaluation shows that sand_5 interval has good petrophysical across wells prolific hydrocarbons. RPD analysis revealed this sand could be best described constant cement model wells_2, _3, _5 _9 friable well_4. The matrix structure varied mostly from clean well-sorted unconsolidated sands as well consolidated cemented sandstones to deteriorating poorly sorted shaly shales/mudstones. template built based on representative well_2 diagnosed hydrocarbon bearing with low V p / s medium-to-high impedance signatures. Brine shales/mudstones moderate high medium impedance, respectively. These results reveal brine cannot distinctively discriminated property, since they exhibit similar characteristics. However, sands, completely characteristic property. demonstrate robust application diagnostic quantitative characterization may quite useful undrilled locations subbasin fields geologic settings.

A Review of Reservoir Rock Typing Methods in Carbonate Reservoirs: Relation between Geological, Seismic, and Reservoir Rock Types

Carbonate reservoirs rock typing plays a pivotal role in the construction of reservoir static models and volumetric calculations. The procedure for rock type determination starts with the determination of depositional and diagenetic rock types through petrographic studies of the thin sections prepared from core plugs and cuttings. In the second step of rock typing study, electrofacies are deter...

Rock physics characterization of shale reservoirs: a case study

Unconventional resources are typically very complex to model, and the production from this type of reservoirs is influenced by such complexity in their microstructure. This microstructure complexity is normally reflected in their geophysical response, and makes them more difficult to interpret. Rock physics play an important role to resolve such complexity by integrating different subsurface di...

An Evaluation of Rock Integrity and Fault Reactivation in the Cap Rock and Reservoir Rock Due to Pressure Variations

Cap rocks are dams which can prevent the upward movement of hydrocarbons. They have disparities and weaknesses including discontinuities, crushed areas, and faults. Gas injection is an effective mechanism for oil recovery and pore pressure. With increasing pore pressure, normal stress is reduced, and the integrity of impermeable boundaries (cap rock, fault, etc.) becomes instable. A successful ...
